Editor’s Letter (Issue n.2)

Dear NOMAD Magazine Readers,

There is no doubt about it, NoMad is New York City’s hottest neighborhood! There are crowds in the park and on the streets. New businesses are opening their doors almost every week — I have recently spotted a giant new and modern Public Storage, an Equinox Gym, and Wonder, a brilliant new food court-style concept restaurant that delivers high quality fast-fine food.

While the streets are buzzing, there is also excitement above. Office space is bustling as people head back to work — and play. Trendy rooftop bars, restaurants, and event spaces are the new go-to destinations for after hours and there is no shortage of things to do or people to meet! Our goal is to do our best to discover and shine a light on all who live, work and play in NoMad.

One of the greatest joys of creating NOMAD Magazine has been meeting the amazing people who make up this dynamic neighborhood. This month, I met and interviewed Alper Tutus, owner of Memories of New York. Tutus has been based in the neighborhood for years and has painstakingly documented the history of NoMad in his newsletter “Then and Now,” which can be found on his website MemoriesofNewYork.com. You can find Tutus every day working in his store and I encourage you to stop in and say hello.

Our team has booked several events in the private dining room at L’Adresse. Above and beyond the exceptional food and drink menu, the service here is without fault. Jazz nights are fun, too, and though we have only been in a few times, everyone remembers our name. At the restaurant’s 2nd anniversary party, we soon discovered that they know all their customers and deeply appreciate their NoMad family.

This small district is also the home of world-class businesses, including the luxurious Ritz Carlton NoMad, the decadent bakery Milk Bar, and the beauty brand MALIN+GOETZ. This month we discovered BLACKBARN, the farm to table treasure that is located on the north side of Madison Square Park. This gem has it all—a vibrant bar scene, fine dining, versatile event space and a memorable menu with ingredients sourced from local farms.

The fact is, NoMad offers something for everyone. In this and upcoming issues, we tell your stories, peek behind the walls and halls, and offer best tips on where to go, what to do, and ways to support the businesses that make up the exceptional patchwork of the neighborhood.

We encourage you to reach out, send your ideas and tell us your stories. My team and I look forward to meeting you all soon.

Sincerely,

Karen Giberson
