MAISON 10 celebrates the Day of the Dead
On Thursday, November 2nd, MAISON 10 celebrates the Day of the Dead with a special Mezcal and fragrance pairing in collaboration with Kelly + Jones perfume. MAISON 10, on the corner of 29th and 5th Avenue in NoMad, is a unique concept store showcasing innovative designers and artists. Since its opening in July 2017, the mission of founders Henri Myers and Tom Blackie has been to bring designers, brands, and artists to a wider market through ethical consumerism.
Kelly + Jones was one of the store’s 10 featured brands for 10 weeks with 10 charities receiving 10% of the profits and had just finished its 10-week rotation when the event was held.
The evening began with wine and good conversation. In celebratory masks and under Day of the Dead themed banners, guests learned about the birth of Kelly + Jones from founder Kelly Jones. She spoke about the day her life shifted from cars (working at Toyota) to perfume, and her ultimate move to New York to study perfumery. It was during a wine tasting when she was reprimanded for wearing perfume — she knew it was against the rules and rightfully so, but she couldn’t help but feel like the vanilla of her perfume and the butter of the Chardonnay went well together. Today the Hudson Valley-based Kelly + Jones follows a unique concept in fragrance, one that embraces both the vineyard and the field to find nature’s true terrior.
Attendees sampled a few of the scents as they sipped on top shelf Mezcal. The Eau de Mezcal collection hints of the agave fields of Mexico where Jones spent a lot of time perfecting the olfactory experience of each bottle. A portion of every sale goes to Programa Vaca, a Mexico-based organization that’s rebuilding the country’s earthquake-affected rural areas.
The brand offers six different Mezal fragrances: Flora, Anejo, Blanca, Negra, Roja, and Verde. All of which are inspired by a different aspect of the beloved liquor.
