Editor’s Letter (Issue n.8)

Dear NOMAD Readers,

This is, without a doubt, our most exciting issue yet — one that marks a historic moment for the neighborhood we know and love. With the launch of the very first NoMad Jazz Festival, the energy in the air is electric. The anticipation is building by the day, and the buzz is doing something truly magical: it’s uniting our already dynamic community in a whole new way.

The idea for the festival was sparked by our publisher, Leslie Spira Lopez, whose vision and determination brought it to life. What began as a dream is now a city-sanctioned celebration, a cultural moment, and a tribute to the creative spirit of NoMad. It’s a powerful reminder of what can happen when imagination meets action.

Beyond the incredible lineup of music, the festival will bring tens of thousands of visitors into our streets, offering them a chance to discover what locals already know: NoMad is one of New York City’s most vibrant, compelling neighborhoods. They’ll experience our world-class restaurants, atmospheric bars, charming shops, and endless variety of things to do.

For those of us who live, work, and play here, it’s a chance to show off the fabric of our community woven together by the people who shape it every day. Over the past few years of writing for this magazine, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many of the individuals who make this place feel alive. In this issue, we’re proud to spotlight just a few of the behind-the-scenes heroes who contribute to NoMad’s vitality, charm, and ever-evolving identity.

We hope this issue captures the joy, rhythm, and soul of what’s happening here and that it inspires you to explore, celebrate, and be a part of it all.

With excitement and gratitude,

Karen Giberson
