Equinox NoMad
31 West 27th Street
Equinox opened the doors to their long-awaited NoMad location in August, offering the neighborhood a luxury fitness club. The modern lobby leads guests to a state-of-the-art facility loaded with top-notch equipment. The multi- floor gym features multiple work out options, with enough choices to appeal to customers at all stages of their fitness journey.
The well-lit rooms have dedicated weight areas, cardio equipment, and studio spaces with 90 classes a week including: spin, Pilates, yoga, boxing and high intensity interval classes — to name a few options. The gym was buzzing with guests, many paired with expert instructors.
I took a high intensity class called Circuit Breaker, taught by the high energy Dario Torres. The 45-minute class was fast paced — focusing on moves to improve strength, mobility, power, and stability. Torres kicked us off with a warm up section, followed by teaming up to make our way around the room to four stations where we completed timed exercises using weights, resistance bands and VIPR Pro weighted tubes. In between the circuits we completed “cardio” sections including light jogging, side shuffles and jump squats. By the end, I felt challenged, accomplished, and sweaty — it was a terrific full-body workout.
This is not a drop in class facility, one must join the gym. The membership pricing is premium, but offers many benefits such as unlimited classes, digital classes, a spa-like locker room with Kiehl’s products, wellness services, and partner discounts. If you are committed to going frequently and taking the classes, it’s a stellar fitness investment. The hours vary slightly daily, but generally range from 5:30am-9:00 or 10:00pm.
Conclusion: The sample class at Equinox NoMad left me wanting more — I may need to think about reallocating my monthly fitness budget to join this gym!
