Editor’s Letter (Issue n.5)

Dear NOMAD Magazine readers,

I can confidently tell you, NoMad has it all! The NOMAD Magazine team feels very fortunate to be able to share the stories and opportunities of New York City’s most dynamic neighborhood with you. Since our launch 18 months ago, we have been dedicated to learning all we can about this vibrant and diverse cityscape with the goal of sharing stories on places to eat, things to do, and the rich history of our streets and buildings.

This month we discovered some unique treasures we encourage you to add to your must-see/must-do list. The De Gustibus Cooking school, located on the eighth floor of Macy’s Herald Square, has a robust and entertaining roster of classes. Sid’s Gym opened last fall with a revolutionary new treadmill experience found only in NoMad. Speakeasy Magick offers a surprising and delightful night out. And, anytime you need a morning or afternoon pick-me-up, we’ve got you covered with the best coffee shops in the area. We plan to revisit all of these spots over and over again in the days and weeks to come and hope to see you there.

I also want to point out that Madison Square Park has so many opportunities — sign up for their newsletters to learn more about the park’s regular offering of seasonal special events, including walks and lectures. And the next time you are near the park, I hope you will visit my favorite literary treasure, Rizzoli Bookstore. I love Rizzoli’s ongoing lecture series and the access it gives to world class and highly informative speakers and authors. The best part? It’s all complimentary.

Another favorite haunt of mine is Cecconi’s at The Ned. I stop in at least once a week for the Rossini cocktail and I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention that the quality of service is exceptional and I secretly love that the team always remembers my name. Anita Gelato is my go-to for a sweet treat and when I need a little shopping fix, I make my way over to the 260 Sample sale. I don’t always buy, but I love hunting for treasures in the mix of well-priced leading brands (quick tip: prices drop even lower on the weekends!).

Also in this issue, we asked iconic street photographer Johnny Cirillo to turn his camera on what they are wearing in NoMad — his brilliant portfolio of street style is the reminder we all need that NoMad truly does stand out as a trendsetting neighborhood.

We hope you enjoy this issue and take the time to explore everything NoMad has to offer. We look forward to meeting you and hope you will share your suggestions and ideas for stories we can bring you in the future.

See you on the street.

Warmly,

Karen Giberson
