NoMad Diner: Diner Drag Bingo
The NOMAD Magazine team and a few of our friends from the Royal House of LeBeija gathered for an unforgettable evening of Drag Bingo at the NoMad Diner, located inside the Arlo Hotel at 11 East 31st Street. On the first Wednesday of every month the diner transforms into a vibrant celebration of laughter, music, and community, and this month’s event did not disappoint.
As the clock struck 7 pm, the lights dimmed and the music picked up, filling the room with fun dance beats that set the tone for the evening. The fabulous drag queen Jacklynn Hyde, who has hosted the event for the last nine years, did not disappoint. She kept the crowd laughing between bingo calls with her unique blend of humor and heart.
With bingo cards in hand, we played for prizes ranging from free drinks and appetizers to a sweet overnight stay at the Arlo Hotel for the lucky final-round winner. The best part? Bingo cards are free, though there is a two-drink minimum to keep the festivities lively. The NoMad Diner’s menu adds to the experience, featuring classic served-all-day breakfast items like omelets and avocado toast, alongside indulgent options like burgers and gourmet hotdogs. The bar is well- stocked with delicious house favorite mocktails and cocktails — along with a broad assortment of drink options. Our table couldn’t get enough of the fries, which were a clear fan favorite.
Drag bingo has its roots in the 1990s, originally conceived as a playful way to raise money for local HIV/AIDS charities. Over time, the game has evolved into part legitimate bingo, part comedy show, and the occasional surprise performance. Jacklynn gave a show-stopping version of “I Will Survive” at the end of the night that had us all dancing in our seats.
As the event came to a close, it was clear that Drag Bingo at the NoMad Diner is more than just a game — it’s an experience. With laughter, music, and community spirit in abundance, it’s the perfect midweek pick-me-up. Don’t miss next month’s event — you might just leave with a prize and a new favorite spot.
